What is Bacteria?

Bacteria are (tiny) microorganisms found in straight or curved rods, spheres, or spiral structures. These organisms are living cells about 1/25,000 an inch in length. Roughly 50 billion bacteria can be grown in 1 cubic inch. Bacteria are self-sustaining as long as they have food and water.

Bacteria may or may not require oxygen for growth. Bacteria that need oxygen are aerobic, while those that do not are anaerobic.

Bacteria that can survive both with and without oxygen are called facultative.

The Bacteria found in Pro-Pump are purple facultative bacteria.

Most bacteria are very pH sensitive, with the pH range of 4 - 9 being the best for bacterial growth. Therefore, anything that drastically changes the pH (such as a high alkaline drain opener) kills the bacteria as effectively as chlorine bleach.

Pro-Pump can survive in low to high alkaline environments; however, it's better for your system if you avoid using caustic drain cleaner when possible.
